Proposition to reduce code complexity (of release 1.6)

Rémi Cresson requested to merge release-1.6-rfcs into release-1.6

Changes:

  • appname completely removed (use name instead)
  • get rid of name getters and setters
  • Input to support other paths than local files
  • test_serializaton can now work with any input image
